Las Vegas McCarran LAS Airport Overview

McCarran International Airport LAS serves the City of Las Vegas and the surrounding Clark County in Southern Nevada.  Gambling can start right at McCarran, which has 1,300 slot machines throughout its terminals, and the Airport welcomes you to fabulous Las Vegas with slot machines around every corner and big billboards touting the latest must-see shows.

McCarran Airport is located in Paradise, Clark County, Nevada, and only five miles south of the central business district of Las Vegas and less than a mile from the famous Las Vegas Strip (and only minutes from all the big hotels). It is conveniently situated between Interstate Highways 15 & 515 and is accessible from Tropicana Avenue (SR 593) to the north or the Las Vegas Beltway (I-215) to the south, entering the airport via the McCarran Airport Connector, which includes Paradise Rd./ Swenson Street and the Airport tunnel.

With four runways and an estimated 39.8 million passengers a year, McCarran Airport serves as focus city for Allegiant & Southwest airlines and is served by a multitude of domestic and international airlines offering direct and connecting flights to all points of the globe.

You can check your bags now prior to your arrival at McCarran Airport by using 'Airport SpeedCheck Advance' (at a fee): (a) Passengers of participating airlines can visit one of seven locations (see below) to check baggage hours prior to scheduled flight departure. (b) With this technology, 'Bags To Go' agents tag & store bags and issue your boarding pass, whereupon Bags To Go transports bags to McCarran for TSA screening and subsequent loading onto your plane.  (c) Instead of going to the ticketing counter you can then proceed straight to the security checkpoint & gate.
Bags To Go Locations & tel.numbers (Nevada area code is 702): Las Vegas Convention Center 943-8120; McCarran Rental Car Center, Main Lobby 261-7740; Luxor Hotel 262-4186; MGM Grand, Main Lobby 281-7490; Palazzo Hotel 607-7777; and Venetian Hotel 414-4689.
The passenger terminal complex at McCarren International consists presently of two operational terminals - Terminal 1, the domestic terminal with concourses A through D and an Esplanade leading to all gates, and Terminal 2, the international terminal. (A new Terminal 3 is to open mid-2012). (For detailed terminal information click on 'Terminal Maps'.)
Parking Options at McCarran International: include Short- and Long-term, Valet, Surface, Economy and Remote parking. (for detailed parking information, click on 'Airport Parking'.)

The McCarran Rental Car Center is located opposite the Remote Parking lot on Gillespie Road. Shuttles buses there depart every five minutes at Exit door 10 or 11. For information call 702-261-6001.

To get from McCarran Airport to your destination, you can rent a car, take a taxi, a limo or a bus: Shuttle/limousines are located on the west side of baggage claim, outside door exits 7-13. Note that there are both group shuttles and 'for-hire' stretch limos. Shuttle service is also available to communities outside of Las Vegas.
1. RTC public buses are available to downtown Las Vegas via Bus 108, and  Bus 109 takes you to the South Strip Transfer Terminal, the Consolidated Rental Cr facility and to Maryland Parkway.
2. The ACE Gold Line bus runs along the Las Vegas Strip and connects with Rute 109 south at the South Strip Transfer Terminal. Note that there is no direct bus service to The Strip.

Present and uture Airport Developments:
1. As Terminal 1's Concourse C ramp areas are being replaced in phases until mid-2012, Southwest Airline’s flights will be housed at gates B-9 – B15 and B19 – B21, all of which are accessible on foot from Concourse C’s bridge (behind the C Annex Security Checkpoint). Furthermore, Spirit, Virgin America & some WesJet flights are also relocated to the B Concourse.
2. The new Terminal 3 of McCarran Airport with 14 airline gates, along with a new roadway system and an 8-level parking garage. is also scheduled to open mid-2012
3. Plans call for the extension of the Las Vegas Monorail to McCarran Airport; its Airport station would be between the MGM Grand and the Harmon Ave. & Koval Lane.  The proposed extension would add underground stations at Terminals 1 and 3.

Las Vegas McCarran LAS Comments

  •

Las Vegas McCarran Airport gets consistently good reviews by passengers. One traveler suggests to head for Terminal 1 if you long for more variety in shops & restaurants. Others caution that the consolidated rental car facility requires a long bus ride and to make sure to take the proper road when returning your car. Also note that McCarran Airport started its ramp area renovation near Concourse C lasting up to 2012, shifting some airline flights over to Concourse B.

  • Belongings extracted from my carry-on

On Dec 01/2011 around 7:25 through 7:50 I went through the security checkup at the entrance for Gate D. After screening my 2 carry-ons, I was invited by a female officer to open my luggages. In my plastic bag with liquids was an 100ml used Sensodyne tooth paste. She told me that isn't allowed. I poined on the 100ml and told her that I am allowed to carry liquids up to 100ml package. She seemed to agree. She then found a bottle of water I simply forgot it to empty before going to Gate D, and I agreed to be discarded. Then she pulled out a small plastic bag and asked me about the content. I explained to her and she convinced herself about the content: 4 slices of ornamental stones, with the price ($6.99 each) on the backof each, receipt attached to the bag. I took them in the carry-on because these are very fragile. She then took my both carry-ons back to the x-ray unit, operated by a young american-african lady, informed her about the incriminated objects, run the luggage through x-ray machine for the second time, then she returned my carry-ons and told me that I'm clear to go. The whole discussion was nice and very polite. Back home, I wasn't able to found the 4 stone slices and the tooth paste in my carry-ons. Could you help me? I'm living in Canada, and the 4 stone slices were the most wanted presents for my family. Please let me know about the outcome 403-866-9404 or sfeclas@shaw.ca
