From What to do when you fall in love… by Lindsay
If you’re looking for a summer getaway to one of the world’s most transcendently gorgeous natural wonders, RealTravel member Lindsay may have just the place to sweep you off your feet and send your heart soaring.
After leaving her job at a software company to travel the world, Lindsay found herself falling in love with the magical sunsets, sweeping chasms, and exhilarating views of the Grand Canyon. The National Park Service says of this sublime World Heritage Site, “this canyon is a gift that transcends what we experience. Its beauty and size humble us. Its timelessness provokes a comparison to our short existence. In its vast spaces we may find solace from our hectic lives.” The Grand Canyon was carved over millennia by the Colorado River, forging one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Like Lindsay, many visitors enjoy hiking the canyon’s beautiful trails, admiring the sights from the South Rim, and whitewater rafting on the Colorado River.
Here’s what Lindsay writes about her experience visiting the Grand Canyon:
“I stood and watched the sunset over the Canyon and resolved to hike one of the day trails the next day, but even in the evening, when I walked to Bright Angel lodge to get some food, I stood looking over the edge (well over the wall) and looking at the Canyon with the moon barely lighting it, yet it lost none of it’s magic.
From the night light, to the first light and then when the sunrise (yes I was up to watch it) starts to hit the canyon and wake her up, the landscape changes and looks so different as the shadows change - I think I can only describe it as a must see thing, so, if you haven’t seen it already - go book your flights…” (more…)
If you’ve never been to Grand Canyon National Park, Lindsay suggests going during the summer when the weather offers ideal conditions. (She’s even extended an invitation to join her on a hiking trip!) After reading Lindsay’s story, you can read more about the Grand Canyon by visiting the journals of Realtravel members Skaforhire, Brisbird, and Erin and David, just to name a few.
