Hong Kong Stopover
From 2007 World Tour in Hong Kong, China on Oct 13 '07
Today was spent on the plane from Londan to Hong Kong. This was our first flight on Cathay and I must say, I was very impressed. We were served drinks and dinner not long after taking off, then we settled back to watch a movie or two before trying to have some sleep. Our seats in business class were similar to those you get in the same class on qantas on the longer routes.
After a fit-ful sleep we were woken for our breakfast before arriving in Hong Kong. We moved quickly through the security point for international transfers and then went looking for a lounge to spend our 5hr stop-over. We first entered a lounge which our Priority Pass card gave us free entry, but after Joe checked out the internet access, and I helped myself to a Magnum icecream(!), we decided to head off to the Cathay lounge which was near our arrival gate. We did not know what our departure gate was as it had not been allocated yet.
waiting... waiting... waiting
As soon as we entered the Cathay lounge I headed for the showers to try and make myself feel human again. This partially worked, and also helped to while away some time. Joe decided to do same and felt much better on his return. After a coffee I snuggled down in my chair and had a snooze for an hour or so, while Joe plugged his headphones into his laptop and watched some tv series episodes for a while.
Our gate was finally allocated and from our diagram, showed that it was about a 20min walk away - the furtherest gate from the lounge!! Boarding was called an hour before departure to allow time for people to walk to the gate. On the way there we agreed that it was probably a good thing that we got some exercise between these two long flights. Boarding the Qantas flight I was disappointed to find that we did not have the qantas sleeper capsule seats. This did not bode well for me getting much sleep on this leg of our trip. We had held off having anything substantial in the lounge expecting to be given dinner on the plane. This turned out to be only supper, which was ok. After watching a movie we both tried to get some sleep. I must have nodded off as the next thing I knew I was getting tapped on the shoulder by a steward with a hot towel in preparation for breakfast. This was made even nicer as we witnessed sunrise over the horizon.
How can we serve you better?
