North Shore Hawaii

I love it here. It's so chill, so relaxing- especially compared to the hustle and bustle of Waikiki Beach. Loads of surfer boys hanging out, smoking & drinking. What a lifestyle. And they're all from California! Looks like we may have a few more places to stay if and when we ever get to California.

The Eddie Aikau Surf Competition took place in Waimea Bay today. It's a world famous competition that only takes place when the conditions are perfect-- 20 to 30 foot waves, slight winds and blue seas. It's amazing to sit on the beach and see these waves in real life. I think one of them hit 35 feet! For those in the know, Kelly Slater, the returning champ from Florida won again.

The town is quaint with a surf shop on every corner. We tried the infamous Matsumoto Shave Ices, bought a few cute things. I wish we could stay here longer. Too bad the Backpackers Hostel was booked all week.
