Today we head off early again at 7:45 enroute first to Lepzig. I spend the bus time catching up on my travel blog and before long we are pulling in at 10:30pm. Here our tour director Maria takes us on a brief walking tour of the older parts of the town, pointing out older houses of the rich Merchants, and how they have been rebuilt after the bombings of the war. We visit the protestant church and are once again wide eyed at the decorative interior.
We are then left to our own devices until about 12:30pm. During this time we wander around the town and decide to go for the local delicacy of bratwurst on a roll for lunch. Imagine a 20cm long sausage presented to you on a dinner roll. Joe reckons the roll is just the "handle" to hold the sausage so you don't burn yourself.
Beautiful Baroque Style Buildings...

Its back on the bus and the drive through to our evening stop at Dresden. On arrival we meet up with a local guide who takes us on a walk through the town. This place used to be the capital of olden Saxony and as such had royal residents and many grand buildings. We are both gob-smacked at all the buildings we see. Our guide informs us that Dresdin was massively destroyed during the allied bombings, and that rebuilding work is still going on. In our walk we pass by the Royal Parade, a wall made from Mison china tiles, showing a pictorial parade of the past rulers. There are 21000 tiles on the wall with each tile costing $300 euros. Luckily during the bombing only approx 300 tiles were damaged.

We visit the Semper Opera house, the Zwinger Palace grounds and the Royal Green Vault. This vault is named after the large green diamond that is held within the vault. There are many, many artifacts also which were held by royalty and showed what the artisans of the time could produce. One can be truly amazed at what is displayed here, including engravings and sculptures done using cherry pips and viewed through a microscope. We don't have anywhere near enough time to look at everything and have to rush out to meet the tour leader at the pre-arranged time.
