Las Vegas continued
From 40 days and 40 nights... (in the US and Canada) in Las Vegas, United States on Jun 19 '10
The following morning we had a breakfast buffet at the Flamingo and then headed to the Palazzo and the Venetian. The Venetian was one of our favourites with its blue skies and architecture which looked just like Venice. We loved the canal that ran through the hotel and hopped on a gondola and were serenaded too as we floated down the canal. We then went to Planet Hollywood for a buffet lunch and despite the 1.5 hour wait it was definitely the pick of the bunch with cuisines from around the world. We headed back to the hotel for another ‘pool party’ and then went to Paris for dinner. We met an older couple from Ohio whilst in line and chatted to them for about 5 minutes before the gentleman asked if we spoke English in Australia. We had a giggle as we didn’t know what language he thought we were having our conversation in for the 5 minutes prior. He was surprised to also learn that we have McDonalds and cell phones and also watch the same movies and tv shows. I think his wife was a little embarrassed by his lack of awareness because at one stage she commented to him that Australian’s don’t live in the dark ages. He was a nice guy so we were happy to inform him about Australia’s progression into 21st century!
Paris is our favourite hotel. Inside it looks just like Paris and has an Eiffel tower where we took a life to the top. The Vegas version of the Eiffel tower is 47 stories high and about half the size of the actual tower. The view was fantastic and we saw all the lights, sounds and sights of Vegas at night. Definitely a must for any tourist. Later than night we went to the Bellagio and watch the fountains which ‘dance’ to music. This is one of the classic Vegas sights.

Our fun in Las Vegas was coming to an end so the next day we checked out of the hotel and headed to MGM to see the lion which has an enclosure in the hotel… only in Vegas!! We hopped on a bus which was to drive us the 4.5 hours to Anaheim. Unfortunately the bus took an extra 1.5 hours and Jodie was very anxious to get to Disneyland. The bus was what they call a luxury bus with a DVD player, and soft drinks and snacks served by our bus steward who was Russian and spoke with a thick accent. A fellow Aussie on the bus commented that she was a bit of a dictator and was scared of her and that really was the case. When he asked her if the bus was taking him and his family to Hollywood she announced that she didn’t know and continued walking down the aisle of the bus. Half the time we didn’t know if she was serious or comedic. We stopped half way to buy dinner and she told us we had 20 minutes and “this was the slowest McDonald’s in the world so we should punch and kick to get in the front of the line”. When we were back on the bus after punching and kicking fellow patrons, she then told us we should be in Anaheim in 1 hr and 45 minutes and if were weren’t it was our fault as we hadn’t prayed hard enough!! When we finally arrived at our particular hotel she kicked us off the bus telling us they were illegally parked and we shouldn’t take so long. We were so shocked that we didn’t have time to decide if we wanted to give the Russian and the bus driver a tip as they zoomed off to drop of others.
Just as we arrived in Anaheim the fireworks for Disneyland started (we were staying directly across from Disneyland) so Amanda took the luggage to the hotel and brought City Pass tickets which would get us both into Disneyland for 3 days, Universal Studios, San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld, whilst Jodie watched the fireworks from the street. When Jodie returned to the hotel room Amanda pulled out the City Pass tickets to show Jodie that we had to put them somewhere safe but could only find one ticket. Panic went through both of us as each ticket was $269 and was not refundable and could not be re-issued. We searched our bags, retraced our steps, checked with the concierge and went back to the lady who sold us the tickets and she re-opened her office as she had shut up for the night. She checked her surveillance footage to see if she could see Amanda dropping the ticket but she couldn’t see anything that would help us. Finally after an hour of searching the maintenance man handed in the ticket as he had found it whilst patrolling the grounds. We both sighed with relief and our eventful day was finally at an end.
Las Vegas.. tick!!!
