Today we boarded the bus for a long trip to Vennice (or as the locals call it Venizia). After a rest stop we then pulled into a small town with a large church/museum which had toilettes and places to eat (and the obligatory souvenier stores). We had lunch and a quick walk through the museum before boarding the bus again. All up it was about 5hrs of bus this day and we were all happy to check into our hotel. This was located outside of Venice on the mainland.
An optional gondola ride and tour dinner was available which Joe and I decided to participate in. It was an experience on the Gondola, I was a little disappointed that I sat in the middle on my own, but with 4 or six people sharing each gondola, we had to sit where the driver wanted us to to keep the boat even. The buildings in Venice are just amazing, they look spectacular, and the bridges are just beautiful. There are apparently something like 430 bridges in Venice. After the gondola ride we walked to the restaurant and sat down to a 5 course meal - and more than a few glasses of red wine. The freshly made pasta is something to experience! The meal ended with a traditional glass of lemonciella - which burned all the way down to my stomach. The others in the group said that it was a particularly strong version of the drink as they had tasted some on Capri that was not that strong. It was good enough however to warm us up for our walk back to our water taxi and return to the mainland for our bus ride back to the motel.
